Family Field Trip Day

November 8, 2025, 1pm-4pm

Registration required

Students of all ages enjoy visiting Wolf Gap on field trips - so we decided to share the fun with the whole family!

Our Family Field Trip will give you the opportunity to enjoy all the fun and learning of a Wolf Gap field trip with the following schedule of activities:

  • Old-Fashioned Toys: Try playing with a wide selection of old-fashioned toys and gain perspective on how children’s lives have changed over time.

  • Sheep to Shawl: Learn about the steps to making your own clothing, from start (the sheep) to finish (the shawl)! Help prepare wool for spinning into thread, and see a spinning wheel in action.

  • Open Hearth Cooking: Enter our historic log cabin kitchen and see, smell, hear, feel, and even taste what it was like to cook food over an open fire.

  • Corn Shuck Dolls: Make your own corn shuck doll to take home as you learn just how historic this simple toy actually is!

  • Butter Churning: Explore the value of dairy on the historic homestead as you churn - and taste! - fresh butter.

Just like a real field trip, your group will rotate through these activities on a set schedule, visiting each station for approximately 25-30 minutes. Depending on the size of your group, you may be combined with another family group for your activities. The entire field trip is expected to conclude no later than 4pm.

Registration is required to participate in the Family Field Trip. The cost to participate is $8 for anyone ages 5-64, $5 for 65+, and no charge for anyone ages 0-4. Registration closes on Saturday November 1st.
